The holidays are over, the decorations are down… now what? I am not a big fan of winter but I do enjoy hiking and snowshoeing. I feel connected to nature and being outside makes me feel good. Becoming a better photographer is also on my list and what better place to start then when I am outside?
Another option is to join a Garden Club. Gardeners are social creatures and it is a great way to learn more…especially in the winter.
Reading gardening magazines and books are a great idea too. My favourite magazines are GardenMaking and Canadian Gardening. They both have websites:
There is also HortusTV (www.HortusTV.com) unlimited access to hundreds of garden videos in an ever-growing library, for your computer, tablet or mobile phone. You can even get a free trial.
If you are in the Toronto or the surrounding area, the Toronto Botanical Garden is a great place to visit. There are courses, lectures and events. Check out their website at www.torontobotanicalgarden.ca.
So embrace winter, organize your gardening photos from last year, make a plan for the Spring and enjoy some time curling up on the couch with your favourite beverage by a fire!
